The topic of this seminar will be my interpretation of Kihon Happo as done in past years in Japan, with influences from training with Sensei in Japan this year. We'll be starting with "by-the-book" versions of the 8 techniques from the written densho and will then explore variations with and without weapons as homework exercise...s based on current training in Japan.

Sanami Dojos First Annual Japan Trip
In recent news Sanami dojo just went on our first annual group trip for training in Japan! It was most enjoyable for the students and myself. Much was learned in these two weeks about eachother and ourselves as well as our strong points and weaknesses. The best approach for gaining skill and not just leaving with a good experience and a spinning head is to not focus on the specific techniques but the points of them and the finer skills. Also to bring the most back dont focus on what you can do but what you cant. The parts you may have an understanding of can be further refined but usually are somewhat within you. So to focus on the things that elude you completely seems to generally fill the Ki (vessel) and leave you with a much heartier experience. It was most enjoyable and I would like to thank everyone who made the experience possible as well as all the people that attended, my teacher Shawn Gray who made us feel so welcome as well as all the Japanese Shihan and visitors and friends we made upon our journey. And a great appreciation goes out to Hatsumi sensei for developing such a wonderful collection of diverse culture and wealth for the future. Plus thanks to all the students who held down the fort while we were away. Hope to see you all there next year.
